Heather Flow has spent two decades focused on carefully considering the creation, intention, and context of art objects. She has cultivated environments where art is not just seen, but experienced and understood on a profound level. After beginning her career at MoMA PS1, she founded Flow Advisory as a collecting laboratory. The firm acts as a creative studio imagining, composing, and envisioning what collections can become. Through continuous observation, rigor, and refinement, Flow guides clients beyond simple accumulation. She leads them in building dynamic collections that consciously evolve with purpose. Flow's focus has expanded to encompass the architecture and spatial contexts that give collections their fullest expression—working at the intersection of art, architecture, and design to translate collecting principles into institutional vision and built environments. At the foundation of all this work is cultural stewardship.


Heather Flow is a member of the Association of Professional Art Advisors, the only standard-setting organization for the practice of art advisory. She also holds accreditation with the Appraisers Association of America.

Post-Internet artist and New Media artist Neïl Beloufa’s work explores the representation of digital information systems and the often-conflicting desires for openly available information within mass media. Within his works, certain aspects of the images are able to be manipulated and fragmented throughout layers of screens within space. Feminist painter, Freida Toranzo Jaeger explores the paralleled gendered history of the car and gendered history of painting – both traditionally understood as steeped in masculinity. Jaeger explores these biases and their inevitable demise. Painter, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy plays with the passage between stratified modes of art-making. His material fluidity is grounded by his recurring set of symbolic, formal, and political concerns. Lutz-Kinoy’s works contain an emphasis on process and the performative dimension of art-making. At the center of painter Frieda Toranzo Jaeger’s investigations is the car interior, which she thematizes on two different levels. Iconographically, the artist interrogates the experience of driving as an incarnated fantasy of male control. Allegorically, the space of the car comes to stand for the space of painting itself. For over 50 years Vitra has been developing innovative, functional pieces of furniture for the office. Sculptor Piotr Łakomy’s artworks engage in a dialogue with architecture, through a shared interest in the human body and the evolution of the modernization of the corporal. Łakomy specifically investigates energy flow and labor. Łakomy’s artworks reveal inherent distortions in the capitalist proposed standard. Jeanette Mundt often works with ideas of appropriation and reinterpretation. Painter Bernard Frize is a French abstract painter who creates process–oriented works that follow a set of rules. The techniques used for the production of his paintings are intertwined with their content and the flat surface of Frize’s works become a common ground on which concept, process, and materials are reconciled. Artist Jason Loebs reflects upon the limits and the new possibilities within conscious materiality. Loebs’ politically conscious, readymade language visualizes the constituting elements and structures of emergence. Utilizing a “biopolitics of the senses,” Anicka Yi challenges traditional approaches to the human sensorium, emphasizing olfaction as well as microbial and embodied intelligence. Through her research and “techno-sensual” artistic exploration, Yi is opening new discourse in the realms of cognition, artificial intelligence and machine learning, introducing concepts of the sensory ecology of intelligence, the machine microbiome, machine ecosystems, and “biologized” machines. Adam Pendleton is interested in how the organization and narration of events orients us around a sense of our present moment. Pendleton shares in a post-modern lineage of intertextuality, one that stretches from Situationist détournement through the allegorical procedures of the Pictures Generation. As much as Pendleton’s work is premised on the strategy of fragmentation and disjunction, whereby the oblique relation of text and image confronts the viewer with pieces of an unfixed grammar of identity and artistic form, it nevertheless refuses that belief in the utter fungibility of images characteristic of other modes of contemporary Warholian appropriation. In the space of the canvas or the arena of performance, Pendleton juxtaposes incompatible forms, times, materials, contexts, and modes of identity in order to refashion history. Heather Flow. Alisa Baremboym is a sculptor and painter who experiments across mediums to propel static objects into amorphous states. She uses technical processes and malleable materials to create pieces that resemble living organisms. In writing about her work, Alisa Baremboym states that,“Conflicting materialities are a process of perception, and that process is the site of production.” Substitute Impression, 2016 is a ceramic, organ-like form with a fleshy pink glaze. The materials are further contradictory in that the ceramic is organic and the acrylic and vinyl has been fabricated. Consciously (or not) the viewer perceives the balance of these opposing materials. In her fractured, blurred, and layered paintings, Jeanette Mundt evokes ideas of memory, perception and cultural constructs. Key to this equation is the removal of images, objects, and/or subjects from their original contexts. In Untitled (2020) flowers rendered in loose brushwork are layered atop tightly outlined blue and green flowers. The composition offers an allegorical understanding of the structures of natural and digital reality. Representation itself is chronographic and shows the movement of her practice towards a more abstract object of representation.

Marilyn Lerner is primarily known for her work with color, making soft-edged geometric abstract paintings on wooden supports. Similarly, Future Dreaming (2023) features layered triangles divided at the base by two offset semicircles. Repetition and difference overlap in an unlikely balance. Through her geometric composition, Lerner creates an optical vibration.

With wry wit and stylistic versatility, Rochelle Feinstein engages equally in the aesthetic potential and semiotic implication of painting. Feinstein’s practice is founded on this friction and through it she plays with contradiction. Her work is deeply informed by abstraction, while also conveying a keen and humorous sensibility to contemporary culture, particularly to our everyday use of language. The artist uses the lexicon of abstract painting to approach subjects of both personal and social importance. Here, Here (2002) eloquently embodies Feinstein’s signature visual wit in the painted medium. The early 2000s offer some of Feinstein’s most provocative text-based art and this piece resonates with that ephemeral body. Created in Monet’s Giverny gardens when Feinstein was an artist-in-residence, Here, Here (2002) includes a range of bold, flat, and saturated colors in combination with graphic text. Although Feinstein explores the floral form in the imagery surrounding the text, it appears far removed from anything recognizably organic. The displaced words in combination with the blue background, the original “greenscreen”, offer an overall effect of dislocation within the context of place. In Here, Here (2002), the artist continues to explore the intimate relationship between parallels and contradictions.

Sculptor David Adamo considers his sculptures to be similar to performances. Adamo’s sculptures are testaments to a specific performance, which is indispensable to the birth of the work. Adamo’s investigation includes a close study of action - effect. Trained in art and architecture, Klara Lidén often uses architectural interventions and hijacked materials to expose some of the conventions on which society is based. Liden's work focuses on intense exploration of the physical and psychological limits of the spaces we inhabit, both public and private. Conceptual artist Danh Vō works within the tradition of the readymade, combining approaches of a cultural anthropologist and a family historian to create poetically charged works that address the lingering social and cultural ramifications of colonialism. Everlyn Nicodemus marries religious symbolism and figurative elements in her paintings. Originally from Tanzania, the artist did not experience racism until moving to Sweden in 1973. It was here where Nicodemus decided to study social anthropology. She combined her anthropological skills with her artistic practice, using her new freedom to interview women and ask them about their lives: sex workers, cleaners, and doctors. Her poetic images “address the triumph of the human spirit over suffering.” Nicholas Byrne investigates the way paint interacts with copper surfaces. He explores art historical traditions using innovative and energetic brushstrokes. Byrne’s paintings feature serpentine linework that composes figural forms and guides the viewer’s eye across the composition, prompting inspection of the medium. Untitled (2022) depicts overlapping linear forms against blocks of muted hues. Incisions across the composition and thinly-spread paint expose the materiality of a copper ground. The exposed copper colors sections off the forms with chalky white tones.

The painted surface is obscured as areas of pigment are only visible through tears and holes in the overlaid covering. This work illustrates the underpinning of Hammons’ methodology: incorporating materials of the street to play with assumptions and expectations. The key element of this series (informally titled “tarp paintings”) is the covering. Fundamental is urban waste and detritus that many would consider trash, which is draped over the painting. The draping acts as a veil that steers the focus away from the painting, towards the canvas as an object -- in the lineage of Duchamp. The draping is in reference to the Hellenistic era during which sculptors adorned figures with “fabric”: known as “wet drapery.” The draping can be understood as skin and so the tarp color is analogous with skin tone.

Nairy Baghramian’s sculptures put modernism and post-minimalism in dialogue with person and place. Her sculptures sit and lean at precarious angles, conveying an unstable quality. However, despite their fragile appearances, Baghramian’s sculptures command authority over their surroundings by confronting the traditional conventions of sculptural practice. Beliebte Stellen (Privileged Points) (2015) is one of Baghramian’s ongoing series that focuses on sculpture’s spatial relationship with site and viewer by experimenting with the medium’s color and volume. This version of Beliebte Stellen (Privileged Points) employs her signature approach of the precarious angle, in which the pale curved-form refuses to lay completely flat and instead teeters provocatively over the ground.

In the 1960s, a rich transatlantic dialogue informed the development of minimalist sculpture. Adapting the principles of seriality and repetition explored by American artists such as Donald Judd and Sol LeWitt, Posenenske responded to Germany’s postwar “economic miracle” and to the democratizing social movements of the 1960s. She made prototypes of sculptures to serve as the basis for authorized productions, to be industrially made at low cost at a later date. Posenenske envisioned her sculptures as modular objects that could be installed in multiple configurations. Series B consists of sheet aluminum folded and arched in convex and concave forms sprayed with standardized industrial colors. In 1968, with her reputation rising, Posenenske became disillusioned by the inevitability of commodification and stopped making art. “Art could not contribute to the solution of urgent social problems,” she declared. Instead, she pursued sociology and later became a union organizer. Works from this series define Posenenske’s practice and her importance in art history.

Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa’s experimental practice is rooted in installation, sculpture, and film. His Guatemalan heritage heavily influences his fantastical works of art with elements from literature, folklore, magic, and childhood memories. The tragic Guatemalan Civil War is one of the artist’s recurring subjects. More recently, he has incorporated broader themes of ecology and the symbiosis between humans and nature. Video works, paintings, and sculptures showcase the various properties of the Mimosa tenuiflora, named after a tree of healing whose habitat comprises South and Central America. Used for the treatment of skin diseases, the artist creates a metaphor with this practice of indigenous heritage in which the skin is a synthesis of human contact, transformation, and cure. In the artwork colorful quilt-like patches cover plywood, just as the "tree of skin" serves as a bind for skin and nature.

Since the early 1970s Lee has lived in both France and Japan and Dialogue (2007) can be considered to reflect an interface between Eastern and Western visual and philosophical influences. This painting has been constructed in a disciplined, almost ritualistic way that is characteristic of Lee’s practice. The restricted and careful movement of the brush visible in the gray marks, which pale to immateriality in parts, is carefully controlled by the artist, who while working even regulates his breathing. The work’s monochrome mark is made from powdered mineral pigment dissolved in glue, and the rich mineralization of the pigment gives a matt appearance to the marks. To apply them, Lee held the primed canvas horizontally rather than upright and loaded a broad, flat brush with pigment, which he then pulled across or down the canvas, gradually depositing the paint onto its surface. Although his work has been connected to broader minimalist and post-minimalist movements, it has a visual connection with traditional Japanese ink brush painting, in which Lee was trained, and he was one of the leading proponents of the mono-ha (‘School of Things’) artistic movement that emerged in Japan in the mid-1960s, which advocated the rejection of traditional notions of representation in favor of exploring materials, their properties and relationships.

Lutz-Kinoy’s works contain an emphasis on process and the performative dimension of art-making. Open Field (2018) is a landscape with layers of gestures that suggest both the complexity of natural elements and the organic quality inherent in the performative act of gesture-making.

Adriano Costa appropriates everyday objects and arranges them in a state he describes as “pre-sculptoric,” in order to explore the undefined moment in which something has not yet been defined as art. The juxtaposition of craft elements (crochet, needlework, carpet weaving) and the formal geometric concerns of minimalist art, concepts of an antagonistic nature, are used by the artist to open a possible discussion on the aesthetic position of contemporary Brazil. Elements are arranged in what the artist calls a ‘pre-sculptural’ manner, which he describes as ‘a moment in the process of constructing a sculpture in which the final form still has not been defined’. His work is being inscribed in traditions of Brazilian modernism, such as Neo-Concretism, yet, he undermines the traditional notions of value by using cheap or everyday materials - adding a humorous contradiction.
